Where in Algonquin? #64

Trying to get the 'Where Is This" restarted.

Where in the park is this?

We need a hint, Barry.

Re: Where in Algonquin? #64

OK, here's a hint. It's in the Highway 60 corridor and very close to a beaver dam. However, the beaver dam is "out of sight"!.

Re: Where in Algonquin? #64

Since some of your recent postings are from around mizzie lake trail, I'm going to guess its one of the lakes you pass while on the trail?

Re: Where in Algonquin? #64

Nice try "tents', but no.

The beaver dam in question is not only "out of sight", it's "in the dark"!

These clues are intentionally confusing. However, once it's guessed, they'll all make sense.

We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it.

Sorry no. The clues are a bit more obtuse than that. Here goes a somewhat less obscure clue .. "There are MOLOKS in the neighbourhood."

Re: Where in Algonquin? #64

No. The photo was taken from a canoe and the beaver dam referred to is only approachable and visible from a canoe.

No, not  the Crow River.

Time to narrow down the geography. "It's in the Highway 60 corridor " .. actually VERY close to Highway 60!

The MOLOKS I mentioned are across the road from this lake.

Costello Lake!

Re: Where in Algonquin? #64

Costello Lake it is!

The photo was taken at the very south end of the lake, looking back toward the north. The pilings and rock embankment in the photo date back to the days of the Opeong spur line (logging RR)  and of the original Opeongo Road.

Here's a link for extra reading .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitney_and_Opeongo_Railway

The beaver dam I referred to was actually in the new concrete bridge/culvert under Highway 60 .. "out of sight" and "in the dark".

Rock embankments exist on both sides of the creek as it flows from under the highway. The right-hand embankment is hidden under the bushes ...

The wood pilings have also lasted a long time ...

And the MOLOKS (super big garbage containers) are at the Costello Lake picnic ground close by ...

So, let the new "Where Is This" begin. "tentsterforever" has it!
