Re: Where in AP #229

Nipissing River at the north end of the High Dam portage?

Re: Where in AP #229

No not there.

I was going to say "and nowhere along the nip" but you can't actually be 100% sure of that strictly by looking at Jeff's AP map. As the river/creek you portage along isn’t actually labelled.

Had to look at a vintage AP map and turns out you are actually looking at a Creek. There is a lake not far to the right(east) hence it being fairly wide creek.

Re: Where in AP #229

Nope.
Edit:
Ok I’m looking at what bodies of water used to be called and even though this section of river/creek is not labeled on Jeff’s map it looks to be a section of a major river that used to carry the name of a creek at one time.

Which makes sense now cause based on where it is I would have guessed It was part of this river.

How’s that for a long confusing clue? My apologies.

Just to clarify my butchering of the clues..

1) Picture is of a portage landing
2) The portage runs along a section river/creek that is not labelled on Jeffs map
3) That section is not the Nip.
4) Trying to figure out what that section was called I looked at a vintage map and it was labeled as a creek.
5) Turns out that old creeek name is actually an old name of one of AP's major rivers.. ( hey I learned something)
6) All that makes sense as the main section of that major river is quite close.

Not on Jeff's map?  Given this I can only assume it's a body of water that has only recently formed after Jeff parted ways with left former Jeff's maps ;-)

Is this the body of water NW of Carcajou L?

Nope sorry Ash..and my attempt at clarity seems to be digging me in deeper.

Let’s try to move this along.

I had just left this excellent site before completing the portage.

Yes !! Thanks Peek for saving the world from anymore of my clues.

The portage is here. Shippagew to Longer. Longer side.

As you can see the river you portage along is not labelled.

Was curious what the section is called so looked at this vintage map.

So I thought it was called White Pine Cr, not knowing the Tim River actually used to be called White Pine Cr.

And so the confusing clues began.

Anyway I learned something so not a total loss.

Re: Where in AP #229

I had always assumed that would be called the Tim River.

me too.. just didn't want to assume and give a misleading clue so i checked  the older map and ended up giving a misleading clue anyway.
