Hike Camp and Fish

Does anyone have any experienced with, or recommend, a trail that one could hike and camp at it that also has decent fishing - preferably trout species? Somewhere that doesn't require a canoe.

Thanks.

But Maple Leaf Lake only has trout (splake, really) and you'll never catch anything there from shore other than during the beginning of the season - late April, early May.

I've caught a bass from shore at Provoking.

Re: Hike Camp and Fish

Bonnechere river next to Basin Depot has brook trout in it... you'll have to camp at Basin lake and then hike and bushwhack to get to the river. High Falls has a trail and there are old logging roads and ports where a canoe route used to exist along the river.

In the Lake Travers area, hiking along the road that runs down to White Partridge will bring you close to Dusk creek and brook trout. Beaver ponds in this area can hold trout and poking around here and there with a map and satellite photos will help.

The Oxtongue river below Canoe lake used to hold trout and probably still does... eg. below Whiskey rapids. But easy access from the highway has probably reduced catch.

Hiking into Ryan along the logging road from the Shall lake access will get you to campsites with some bushwhacking and maybe splake fishing. Campsites may be closed again this year due to a blue-green algal bloom.

Here's the 2017 stocking list which could provide some clues on places to hike to and fish... eg. Blackfox. Some of these lakes could be productive when trout are near shore and could be caught with worm and bobber. Planning ahead with maps and sat photos should help as always... good luck.
