Re: Where is this #147

That clue sounds like it is Dickson Lake from the end of the portage from Bonfield.

Re: Where is this #147

I can't say I recognize the location, but your last clue and the map make me wonder if this is the end of the eight million mile portage from Bonfield into Dickson.  I've done that carry in the other direction a few times, many years ago, and it sends you through the five stages of portage (pain, misery, anguish, despair,  resignation).  How far you get on the five stages is directly correlated to the length and terrain/topology of the portage.  On a portage of this length, you get very close to resignation - the realization that there is no end to the carry; that this is how and where you will live out your days.

Anyway, that's my guess....

Close but the Bonfield-Dickson port is peaches and cake compared to this one.

Re: Where is this #147

I'd guess it is the end of the portage from Round Island Lake to Dickson Lake.   Quite a bit more painful than the Dickson-Bonfield portage!

Re: Where is this #147

Yes it is. Only done it the easy way from Round Island. From Dickson would be much worse. Yellowcanoe you're up.

Re: Where is this #147

I've only done that portage once and it was in the Dickson to Round Island direction.   I'll never forget the brutal climb at the start of the portage and as luck would have it, it was my turn to carry a pack and the canoe!
