I thought the Park was closed to back country canoe camping after Thanksgiving. The online reservation system seems to confirm that.

My biggest pet peeve is having to turn down my music to try and hear what others from across the lake are yelling at me. Nothing spoils the mood more at night than that.

In all seriousness, people leaving garbage bothers me greatly but unfortunately it's something I've come to expect. One thing I still don't understand, to Claire's comment, are people going next to the BoomBox. Why??? I see this more often than I would like to. You need to get over your fears, people.

Make sure you have a wool toque packed. I own like 3 of these:

Can't beat the price.

Was supposed to head out with the family on the Friday but we cancelled and left Saturday instead. From what I'm reading it seems like we made the right call. No way I wanted to be on the water with the kids with those storms.

Love my Trangia Alcohol stove. Use it primarily with a Solo Stove system and ethanol fuel. I find ethanol safer (as opposed to wood alcohol) but notice it burns really hot so I mix it with a bit of water.  You'll need a wind screen for sure and I recommend something sturdy like this:

https://www.amazon.ca/SOLEADER-Windscreen-Lightweight-Compact-Folding/dp/B071L8LTJZ/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1501264252&sr=8-14&keywords=windscreen

Harder to simmer with this type of stove than an MSR but boils water well and is great for frying. Any wind will greatly decrease performance. Never tried pellets. I just lug in the gas or use the Solo as a twig stove.
Enjoy.

The North Face Summit Series Gore-Tex Pro. Was less expensive than Arc'Teryx when I was in the market and is my go to jacket in the backcountry. Waterproof, highly breathable, bug proof, durable, etc... I'd get another one in a heartbeat.
Good luck in your search.

I am a total gear junkie. Love to see what's new, research and then test it out in the bush.
If I had a favourite type of gear it may be kitchen gear / stoves but I'm always on the hunt for that 'game changer' in all areas of back country camping.
When it comes to buying new camping items my wife and I have a don't ask, don't tell type of arrangement.
@Steve E, bought a Western Mountaineering Bristlecone from MEC  this spring. I am no longer afraid of the cold...

Worst garbage I saw was someone leaving behind a broken down Alligator on a island on Catfish lake. Rusty metal pieces everywhere. Can you believe the nerve of some people...

Honestly I've been pretty lucky overall with garbage on sites. Last summer when checking out a site we saw something odd next to the Thunderbox. Upon inspection we noticed it was a  large toilet seat that someone fashioned out of foam and wrapped in plastic. Are you kidding me? Wasn't touching that...

Fire ban? This year? Hahaha http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/grin.png

In all seriousness that's a good question. I would assume not with a twig fire but a controlled alcohol flame should be allowed. The twigs do leave some ash behind, albeit they are cool to the touch shortly after the flame goes out.

I have the Solo Stove which looks very similar in design to the BushBuddy. I also have the Solo pot which the burner nests in beautifully. Believe I got off Amazon.ca.

I love the fact that I can drop a Trangia puck in if I'm in a hurry to have my coffee or I can just use unlimited twigs. It's surprisingly efficient and doesn't take much to boil a pot of water (or char up some vegetables). As mentioned before, it does take a bit more time to get going if the ground is wet but you should get it lit relatively easy with some birch bark lying around.

Not surprised to see others who share these same levels of trust and who are comfortable leaving their campsite unattended.
Curious, when and what lakes are people camping on this summer in the Park? Also, any cool new gear you plan on bringing in?

@CanoeClaire we're the same in terms of leaving our campsites.
I go to back country APP to get away from the daily city stresses with people I've come to trust with my life. I'd rather hope I can rely on someone at a campsite across the lake in the event of an accident than fear they may steal from me. Unlike when I'm in the city, I feel comfortable letting my guard down in the Park and I hope that never changes.

There is a special place reserved in hell for anyone who steals from the APP interior. If anyone was ever seen stealing from my campsite...well, things would probably play out like the canoe chase scene in the Last of the Mohicans. Ha.
